New Energy :)

Hi PPL,

There was a suggestion that we mix it up every so often to change up projects and group leaders to keep the energy fresh. There was some discussion and I suggest we continue with our 3 projects, but in collaboration. We can work together to finish our respective projects with Environments and extra characters, etc.

Currently, we have 3 projects and since Eunice started this blog I suggest we start with her Final Fantasy set, then Ian's Megaman set, then my Strider set. This way we each can be the Art/Design directors of our respective projects and have credits for new assets in 3 different storytelling styles, eg. Fantasy, Anime and Sci-Fi :)

We have to commit to getting all 3 projects done to be fair to each other. :) Plus, by putting credits at the end of the projects, it'll keep us honest in delivering our best quality of work. This way we can have 3 killer sets and one complete overall project reel that we all collaborated on.

As decided by everyone, let's make the deadline 5-6 weeks per project, with a rough outline of weekly schedules consisting of:

1. Organizing assets, storyboarding, asset design sketches, Art Director written outline
2. Building Geo
3. Texturing
4. Lighting and (x3)Rendering
5. Shot Compositing (x3)
6. Week 6 if needed...

As within the spirit of this blog, let's continue to push and support each other!

Cheers! This going to be fun :)

Edgar Zbrush head sculpt

Here's my initial head sculpt. I'm not using correct line flow right now so i can have maximum flexibility in Zbrush. I'll have to go in and either retopograph it in Zbrush or use the sculpt as a template in 3ds or xsi later.

I'm not really sure that I'm going in the right direction in regards to the face, though. He maybe looks more rough and soldiery than he should, especially compared to the regular Final Fantasy style. He's supposed to be a womanizing prince in the game. Or it could be that he just needs some nice hair. What do you think?

ammo box final?

Here's the new render of the ammo box with fixed edges on the base normal map and new spec map. Wireframe and maps are below.

Takin' a break...

So I took some time off from working on Edgar to practice some low-poly prop modelling & texturing. Top is the render, bottom 2 are the ref images. Do you think I need to adjust the spec map?

Total 344 triangles

Smmmmoooth

Hi All,

Here are some of the latest revisions:

As suggested by ppl, I re-posed him into a more upright, less spine breaking and a proper balanced fighting position, rather than trying to match the original art exactly. BUUUUUUT, Having looked at both poses.. which is cooler? In retrospect the original pose does look more aggressive having the weight placed more forward and on the front foot... Suggestions????? Help! :P

I smoothed out his pant wrinkles and started on sculpting muscle tone (MedRez). I'm happy with the scarf shape and flow and will leave it as is, until the HiRez detailing

To be done:
-Finish detailing rear foot and lower leg
-Add muscle and detailing to hands
-Move onto detailing accessories

Keep on, keeping on everyone :)

Hey all!

Hey guys! I apologize for being absent from the blog so far. This last month has been crazy busy for me. I have some spare time now so I'm going to try to get caught up. The character I'm going to do is Earthworm Jim which has long been my favorite character of the 16 bit generation. I honestly don't feel like updating him so I'm just going to model him as is.

Zbrush-Appending, detailing lv.1

Hey Everyone!

Here is a progress shot from Zbrush. I've started mid-level detailing on the mask and low level detailing on the body. To be done ... finger posing, trailing scarf detailing, mid-level body, legs and face and adding muscletone on the arms

Does anyone know how to make the backfaces of polys show up in Zbrush?

Cheers! :)

UVs done, Action Pose Started

Hello Groupers,

Been workin on the model. Check it out... posing has started...arms, hand positions and clothing to be tweeked. Any suggestions on the leg position? In the 2D Image the legs are a bit wider, but the perspective is also forced and body proportions are distorted.. should this be done with the model or should I just tweek the camera lens length in the final render? I'm leaning toward the camera adjustment... ;)

Tweaked the boots a little. I tried adding armor to the shins and knees, but it wasn't working out. Maybe I'll try again later. I also added the Jason mask that he uses when he scores a critical hit and made the drill holster bigger.

G.O.A.

Hello fellow Groupers, :P

Here's what I have so far for the concept. Don't really know what to do for the colours. Should I stick with the sprite's blue, green and gold??

megaman in the sky with diamonds!!

also a shot of my base mesh!!

push, pull, tweek, tweek, BLLLLOOOOOOOOG

Hello fellow Groupers of Awesomeness

BTW the above fish is a Grouper... if ya didn't know :P

Here are a couple of WIP screenshots for Strider Hiryu...
These are reference images that I think resemble the character's design, although the 3/4 and side images aren't the same male model, they were used just for proportional references...

Suggestions, Critiques? pls and thx :)

My selected character

One of favorite Nintendo games other than Ninja Gaiden, or Megaman is the game "Strider".

So that is my pick, but as much as I would like to, I won't have time to update the character, I think I'll find reference and try to speed model from existing art.
:)

Here are some images I found... i think prefer the pose in the last image
